Why I cannot vote for Barack Obama

(14) And justice is turned away backward, and righteousness standeth afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and uprightness cannot enter. (15) Yea, truth is lacking; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey. And Jehovah saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.



I watched ‘the speech’ last night. It was, indeed, a great speech. Senator Obama is a great orator, and the timing of the speech (45 years to the day after Dr. King’s 'I have a Dream' speech) couldn’t have been better. This was high theatre, emotionally rousing, and poignant. It was an historic event.
As a black man in America, I was very proud. Here is a man, my age, who is poised to change the world. What his election will say about America, and how far we have come is without dispute.

That said,

I can’t vote for him.


Why you ask? Well, most importantly, because I am a Christian. It is more important to me than being black, more important to me than having a black president. I respect, even like Sen. Obama, but on most of the things that are important to me, I stand opposed to Sen. Obama, and his policies. The pivotal point in ‘the speech’ for me was:

We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country. The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang-violence in Cleveland, but don't tell me we can't uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination. Passions fly on immigration, but I don't know anyone who benefits when a mother is separated from her infant child or an employer undercuts American wages by hiring illegal workers. This, too, is part of America's promise — the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort.

It was interesting to note that he glossed over them without giving specifics on where he stands. As a wise politician, I would expect nothing less. Thankfully, there is the internet, and there is plenty of footage about, so we can easily figure out the good Senator’s real agenda and beliefs.

In that paragraph, Sen. Obama mentions 3 of the 7 most important issues to me (the others being, the ‘war’, taxation, rising costs of living and the Environment)
As I research, I am discovering that on several of them, he and I are 180 degrees apart. (In the next few blog items, I will lay out my case, the reasons why I cannot vote for Barack Obama, followed by a similar discourse on Sen. McCain.)
Of the seven, far and away the most important to me is the issue of abortion. It is unfathomable what is done here and abroad, day to day in the name of ‘choice’ and ‘freedom’ (really meaning convenience).

I am a former United Methodist. I admire John Wesley, and I am an adherent to the doctrine of prevenient grace,(sorry all my Calvinist friends) but I do not agree with the direction that the denomination is going in. I lead worship in the UMC that I grew up in,(and will continue to do so until the Lord directs me to leave) and I Pastor a housechurch. That is not a discussion for this blog, but it is a point that needs to be made here because I think it is funny (ironic, not haha) how I hear increasingly liberal mainline denominational preachers today, speaking out in support of gay rights, gay marriage, the rights of (so-called) illegal immigrants, and the need for equality, justice, equal rights and protection under the law. They use scripture to justify the stance that they take, even claiming that Jesus would be pro-gay and pro-choice, But not one of them have I heard speak to the rights of those who need champions the most, the unborn. Where are THEIR rights? Who cares for 'the least of these'?? Who cries out for them among the Methodists, Presbyterians, et al? Who does?


Why was the blackgenocide.org site down today?
Is it because of its vehement opposition to ‘Planned Parenthood?’
I called today and spoke to Pastor Clenard Howard Childress, Jr. the founder of Black Genocide.org, who let me know that the site is constantly being attacked and hacked, but not to worry it would be up again later in the evening. (God Bless you Pastor)

Countdown to Extinction
Minority women constitute only about 13% of the female population (age 15-44) in the United States, but they underwent approximately 36% of the abortions.

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion
On average, 1,452 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.
(I interject here) THAT IS ONE AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILD KILLED BY HIS/HER OWN MOTHER EVERY MINUTE! EVERY DAY!

This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 10 million abortions.
Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 31 million, the missing 10 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 41 million persons. It would be 35 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."

A highly significant 1993 Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had had any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions.

Did you know that Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood was a Eugenicist? She opened the first 'Birth Control CLinic' in 1916, in Brooklyn, NY. Specifically, in Brownsville, a largely African American neighborhood.
For those who may not know, Eugenics is (according to Wikipedia)
“a social philosophy which advocates the improvement of human hereditary traits through various forms of intervention.[2] Throughout history, eugenics has been regarded by its various advocates as a social responsibility, an altruistic stance of a society, meant to create healthier, stronger and/or more intelligent people, to save resources, and lessen human suffering.” The rest of the article can be found here

With this in mind, how can we, as black people continue to rally around a man who says things like:


“If they (his daughters) make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby”

“The first thing I’d do as president, is sign the freedom of choice act”

“There will always be people, many of goodwill, who do not share my view on the issue of choice. On this fundamental issue, I will not yield and Planned Parenthood will not yield."

“For the first time in Gonzales versus Carhart the Supreme Court held—upheld a federal ban on abortions with criminal penalties for doctors. For the first time, the Court’s endorsed an abortion restriction without an exception for women’s health. The decision presumed that the health of women is best protected by the Court—not by doctors and not by the woman herself. That presumption is wrong.”

Here’s what the Senator said in 2001 when he was the sole senator to speak against Born Alive on the Senate floor in 2001. Sen. Obama said:
"Whenever we define a previable fetus as a person … it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an anti-abortion statute. For that purpose, I think it would probably be found unconstitutional."


What do we say to this? What else is there to be said, save
